We are Headway Derby.
We are a specialist brain injury organisation that offer unique development and support services to families and individuals across the City of Derby, South Derbyshire, and East Staffordshire; improving life after brain injury to enable anyone affected to lead more fulfilled connected and independent lives.
Why do we call the people that access our services ‘members’?
We call the people who access our services ‘members; because they are members of the brain injury community and specifically, the Headway Derby community. This is a way to spread inclusivity among what we do as an organisation.
Although being entirely independent, we welcome and encourage collaborative partnerships and work closely with the Derby and Burton NHS Trusts Head Injury Team, Neuro Outpatients Team, Kings Lodge and Vulnerable Adult Social Care Teams to engage with people affected by brain injury as quickly as is suitable for them.
We offer a portfolio of services intentionally designed to support the whole-self, and this includes services for family and loved ones (see the ‘Our Services’ tab at the top menu for more information).
As part of this, we have worked with Dr Charlotte Whiffen from the University of Derby to seed and evolve a special interest group to explore and develop services and connections for families affected by brain injury. On 9th September 2021 the special interest group, now called Anchorpoint will be formally launched at the Headfirst Conference.

As a charitable company limited by guarantee, and registered charity in England and Wales we rely on the goodwill and support of people to help us provide reduced and free services to those without the means to fund their own bespoke package of services.
